Budget Proposals 2017/18

Welcome to my latest vlog.

I’m here in County Hall in the debating chamber where we’ll be talking about the Council’s budget later this month. It’s an incredibly important time not just for Cardiff but for Councils right across Wales, as we look to balance the books against a very difficult financial picture.

Cardiff has cut over £200m from its budget over the last 10 years and we know that next year will not be any easier – we face cuts of around £25m with another £80m+ to find in the following 3 years too. But we did get a slightly better settlement than expected from the Welsh Government so the budget does include an extra £7m for our schools and we’ll also be putting more money back into areas that people tell us are important, whether that’s cleaner streets or improvements to the city’s roads.

Over the next few weeks Councillors will be debating the details of the budget before it comes to Full Council for that decision later this month.

Diolch,

Phil
